As a tribute to legendary Ape Gang OG, ChefCryptoChris, we decided to continue naming Ape Gang’s weekly newsletter “The Peel”. The Peel drops every Sunday (or Monday) around 12noon — 5pm EST and includes roadmap updates plus other notable news from Ape Gang’s Universe.
First up, another excellent background story — this time by LHK
Otake Jiro (大竹次郎) was born on the 14th of October 1925.
He is a Japanese chef and was once an owner of Sukiyabashi Ape, a Japanese sushi restaurant in Ginza, Chūō, Tokyo, Japan.
Otake was regarded by his contemporaries as one of the greatest living sushi apes and is credited with innovating methods used in modern sushi preparation.
Otake was born in the Jigokudani Monkey Park, located in the forests of the Jigokudani valley in Yamanouchi, not far from the onsen towns of Shibu and Yudanaka.
He started catching fish in a pond nearby his home when he was just a baby and started a local sushi restaurant in the trees, before moving to Tokyo to study as an apprentice sushi chef.
He became a qualified sushi chef in 1947, and in 1955 opened his restaurant, Sukiyabashi Ape, in Ginza, Tokyo.
Only two years after opening his sushi restaurant — a gang of rival human sushi chefs burned his business down in the middle of the night. He was left with nothing. From that day — he hated humans for what they did to him and wanted his revenge.
He heard of a place called Ape City where apes and humans were at war, so he made his way to Ape City and joined the notorious “Sushi Gang”.
To this day he hunts humans down and uses their flesh as ingredients for sushi.
Humans beware, because Otake Jiro may be coming for you too.

$GANG utility
As mentioned before, Ape Gang’s $GANG utility token will create the foundation of a thriving ecosystem with some great use cases. We’ll start with the four use cases outlined below and continue to develop the $GANG ecosystem as we progress. Obviously Jaguars are key, so make sure you join Gang Wars.
Mobile game
A few of you already tried the 1st version of our mobile game, which is all about great game-play and not so much about cutting-edge graphics :-). Watch out for weekly leader-board competitions once we launch.
Toucan Gang on Rarity Tools
It sure took its time, but Toucan Gang is now listed on Rarity Tools. Go check out your birds and GANK! a few rares.
Metaverse Alpha
On December 10th we launched the alpha version of Ape Gang’s own custom 3D metaverse and Ape Gang’s Discord was instantly flooded with great pictures and videos. We really appreciate everyone’s input in the “bug channel”, which is exactly why we launched the alpha version already now — to speed up the process of improving the metaverse.

We are well aware that an empty world doesn’t stay fun for ever and the team from Leapnverse is working around the clock to finish all traits so you can play as your own ape and add new features (think proximity voice chat, treasure hunts, parkour courses, and much more).
Notable mentions & social media
It raised quite a few eyebrows when Survivor winner and fan favorite Mike Holloway invited his Survivor and Big Brother network to join an Ape Gang AMA. More information to come about this exciting collaboration opportunity.
Competitions and giveaways
Our collaboration with Mecha Chaotic resulting in a stunning derivative won by Aped/Cryptowads who stayed up half the night to watch Ethan S. Brewerton draw a dystopian mutant version of Aped’s Zombie Lakers ape.
Outlook for this week
The big migration is happening on December 15th and we can’t wait for $GANG to be unlocked. We’re also crossing our fingers for a big announcement within the next few days, which will further validate Ape Gang as one of the top NFT projects. Finally, work is ongoing to secure street-wear collaborations and get our story published in leading media outlets.
